  • Please read the information covered on the sex therapy, relationship therapy, or individual counselling pages.

The topics I have listed are my areas of specific interest. However, if there is a topic of concern that I have not mentioned, you are welcome to contact me and enquire about whether or not I am able to support you in this.

FAQs

  • Counselling is a supportive and intensive process where you work with a trained counsellor to explore and address personal challenges, emotional difficulties, and life transitions. It is a space where you can talk openly about your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a confidential and non-judgmental environment. The goal of counselling is to facilitate your awareness, gain insights, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes in your life. It is a collaborative journey where you are supported in discovering your own answers and solutions.

  • Counselling and therapy are terms often used interchangeably. In my practice, I will often use both words. Both involve talking with a trained counsellor or therapist to explore and address issues that may be hindering your wellbeing. Therapy often denotes longer term engagement and may not always involve concrete, short-term goals that are a marker of counselling. Therapy is often seen as a deeper engagement into the individual’s overall life including their past and how this has shaped who they are in the present. Therapy involves a more in-depth exploration of emotional patterns, past experiences, and unconscious processes to facilitate deeper understanding and change. Counselling tends to be more present day and future focussed.

As a person-centred practitioner, I will follow your lead regarding which approach you determine will benefit you most.

  • Counselling and psychology can often overlap, complement each other’s work, and can collaborate to support the needs of an individual. However, there are some key differences to consider:

Counselling: Counsellors focus on journeying with you through personal challenges, everyday life struggles, improving relationships, and enhancing overall wellbeing. Counsellors work with you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and to develop effective coping strategies.

Counsellors do not provide assessment and diagnoses for mental health disorders.

Psychology: Psychologists can diagnose and treat mental health disorders. Psychologists can administer psychological tests and assessments, and can provide interventions for more complex mental health issues.

When should I seek a psychologist? You may need to seek the expertise of a psychologist under the following circumstances:

    Diagnosis of Mental Health Conditions:
If you suspect you may have a mental health condition such as bipolar disorder, personality disorders, or schizophrenia, a psychologist can provide a formal diagnosis and treatment.

Psychological Assessments: For comprehensive assessments related to cognitive functions, personality, learning disabilities, or developmental disorders (for example ADHD or autism assessments).

    Acute Mental Health Issues:
Although some counsellors work in this space, if you are experiencing an acute mental health crisis and significant, ongoing distress, such as making plans for suicide- I recommend seeing a psychologist.

  • Online video sessions are through the secure client management system Carepatron. You will be able to join the video call through your unique appointment confirmation or email reminder link.

  • I am registered with Bupa. If this is your health fund, you may be eligible for rebates. However, you will need to enquire with Bupa to see what rebates you may be eligible for as this will depend on your private health cover.

I will be applying for more private health funds in 2026.

  • I am unable to accept MHCP and counselling is not offered under medicare rebates.

  • Your credit or debit card details will be securely stored through stripe https://stripe.com/au

Payment is due on the day of your session, and your card will automatically be charged.

    • I do not provide therapeutic counselling or crisis support by email, text message, or phone outside of scheduled sessions.

    • Emails with information requiring a therapeutic response will not be replied to.

    • I will only email you outside of sessions if we have agreed during a session that I will send specific resources or information.

    • Emails are not continuously monitored and are not suitable for urgent or emergency issues.

    • If you are in crisis or require immediate assistance, please contact emergency services (000 in Australia) or a crisis helpline (e.g., Lifeline 13 11 14).

    Video Conferencing Etiquette

    • Video sessions are held via secure client platform Carepatron

    • To help make sessions effective and respectful, please ensure the following:

      • Attend sessions from a private and quiet location where you feel comfortable to talk openly and confidentially.

      • Minimise distractions (e.g., turn off TV, silence notifications).

      • Be appropriately clothed, as you would for an in-person session.

      • Do not attend sessions while driving or operating machinery.

      • Have any items you may need (e.g., tissues, water, notebook, pens) nearby.

    • If your or my internet connection fails during a session, we will attempt to reconnect. If reconnection is not possible, I will call you on your nominated phone number to continue the session by phone.

    Supervision & Professional Standards

    • I engage in professional supervision to ensure quality practice. Supervision is also under confidentiality.

    • I am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association, and adhere to their Code of Ethics.

    Privacy and Records

I collect personal information that is relevant to our counselling work, including your contact details and session notes. These official records are stored securely within Carepatron, a password-protected, encrypted practice management system. Other relevant client work and information is stored securely on password protected devices.

Session notes are kept for a minimum of 7 years after your last session, as required by law. These records are confidential and only accessible to me.

    You have the right to:

    • Request access to your personal information.

    • Ask for corrections if your information is inaccurate.

    Using Heidi (AI Scribing Tool)

    • I use an AI scribing tool called Heidi during and after counselling sessions. This tool helps me capture and summarise session content into clinical notes.

    • No recordings are kept – the tool listens, writes down words, then deletes the sound straight away.

    • Only the written notes stay on Heidi, and only for as long as I keep them, which is up to 7 days

    • Heidi hides names and private details before notes are saved.

    • Heidi notes are locked and secure. No one else sees them unless I ask for tech help.

    • Heidi notes are stored safely in Australia.

    • If a court asks for the Heidi notes and they still exist, I must give them.

    • I always check and fix the Heidi notes myself, before storing them securely in Carepatron

By signing this contract, you acknowledge and consent to the use of Heidi for scribing purposes as described above.
